CIMETIÈRE
Cemetery in the lowest part of New Plymouth, offering a walk to discover the ancient Loyalist graves.
During a stroll, you can take a curious glance at the cemetery, which has very old Loyalist tombs, but still decorated with flowers by their descendants. The cemetery covers about 1 hectare in the lowest part of New Plymouth and although the oldest grave still visible dates from 1830, it is believed to have been opened in 1790. New Plymouth Cemetery has been ravaged several times by cyclones. When digging a new grave, it is not uncommon to find the remains of one of the devastated graves.
