CANAL FROM CAEN TO THE SEA
Canal de Caen à la mer in Bénouville, a water sports area and a place for pedestrians and bicycles
This 14 km long ribbon of water has allowed ships to pass through since 1857. The 1944 bombings caused major damage to all the port installations, but the help of the British enabled the activity to be restarted. The canal is an integral part of the natural environment and has become a rich source of activities shared by all the inhabitants of the nine communes along its banks. It is a waterway for water sports, a place for pedestrians and cyclists, and a favourite spot for fishermen.
