MONT TREYA
To the west of the palace, this mountain has always been the place of enthronement for every new sultan. Its summit is equipped with a pyramidal platform, likened to the constellation of the Pleiades. At the enthronement ceremony, the postulant to the throne was required to make a seven-day, seven-night retreat to seven different huts, in reference to the number of stars in the constellation. On the seventh day, a huge snake would emerge from the last hut, a sign that the new sovereign had been accepted and that the popular festival could begin at the foot of the mountain.
