The shores of Lake Chad are a favorite spot for hunters and fishermen; the former can hide behind papyrus and rushes to watch for ducks of all kinds, which abound in the region. The most famous are, of course, the armed ducks, or Gambian geese, as they are the largest and can easily weigh up to 10 kg. But you'll also find slightly smaller Egyptian ducks, teals, dendrocygnes, helmeted ducks and numerous guinea fowl. You can also track palmipeds and other water birds, simply equipped with binoculars... Numerous hippos also bask in the shallow waters of the lake, yawning and frolicking in great sprays of splash, to come out in the late afternoon to graze on the green grass of the banks. As for anglers, they can indulge in their sport by choosing between the European method and traditional hook-and-line or net fishing. For those wishing to limit themselves to a short stroll on the lake, simply head to Djimtilo to hire a boat. The inhabited islands lie to the north of the lake, so if you want to get there, you'll have to leave from Bol or the surrounding area and borrow a motorboat. Finally, the Rig-Rig region to the north of the lake is quite pretty. The soil, studded with shell sand, is a reminder that the Paleochadian Sea once covered much of the surrounding area!
