THÉÂTRE DE MARIONNETTES SKAZKA
The Skazka Puppet Theater is a puppet theater located in Barnaul. Founded in 1918 in Petrograd, it was the first state puppet theater in Soviet Russia. The theater was created by a group of artists led by Lyubov Chaporina-Yakovleva. Early performances focused on poetry and were influenced by European avant-garde art and pre-revolutionary Russian intellectuals. The theater merged with Yevgeny Demmeni's Petrushka Theater in 1930. Demmeni remained at the head of the company until 1969, adapting the string puppet. The theater has a remarkable cultural and educational activity, promoting playwrights specific to the genre and adapting the great European classics. Since 1983, Natalia Sizykh has directed the company's scenography. The theater has won several awards, including the Masque d'Or in 2008 for best puppet production.
