It was in this house that the writer lived with the widow Maria Issaéva, née Constant, whom he married in 1857 at the age of 33. It is assumed that Maria's French grandfather had gone into exile during the French Revolution or had come to Russia to seek his fortune. The couple celebrated their wedding at the Spasso-Preobrazhenski Cathedral. For several years Dostoyevsky, in love with Maria, came especially to Novokuznetsk to see her. That's where she died in 1864.
