CENTRAL MUSEUM
Also known as Ploshchad Mira or the former Lenin Museum. The Central Museum of Krasnoyarsk is above all a monument. Built in the 1980s, it housed the only Siberian branch of the Central Museum dedicated to Lenin (you can't miss it, it's the only one on the banks of the Yenisei). Inside this titanic brown block, even topo, you travel back in time: monumental ceremonial staircases, vertiginous hall, closed doors with double turn behind which one imagines secret corridors and disused work cabinets. Red carpet, Soviet design and accessories, disproportionate frescoes. On either side of this unusual environment are the works of today's Siberian artists. The visit starts on the top floor: it's a whole creative journey along this staircase, temporary and permanent exhibitions. You will alternate photo, painting, light and sound scenographies (such as this incredible return to the war in Afghanistan), poetic or... critical-educational installations. There are dozens of nooks and crannies, sketches, performances where it is good to get lost. Don't venture too late in the day to have time to enjoy them. Unfortunately, no audioguide (but helpful guards and a few brochures in English). Includes a bookstore and a restaurant for a quick snack. Free lockers in the basement. One can only be greeted with rave reviews on this unusual gallery. Really, not to be missed!
