Museum featuring a major pictorial collection of modern and contemporary art, with areas dedicated to the graphic arts
Covering 5,000 m², the MAMCS collections cover the period from 1870 to the present day with more than 18,000 works stored within its walls. Impressionism, Art Nouveau, Primitivism, Cubism and Surrealism are among the different artistic movements represented. The paintings of Picasso, Kandinsky, Monet, Dali and Max Ernst are particularly noteworthy. Lovers of engraving will enjoy the room dedicated to the work of the great Gustave Doré. Thanks to the different spaces, the visitor has access to an important pictorial collection of modern and contemporary art, but also to spaces dedicated to graphic arts and photography. The MAMCS also keeps a particularly sharp eye on a young generation of artists from the four corners of the world and proposes an annual program of exhibitions, as well as a real policy of acquisition of recent works. Beyond the purely aesthetic aspect, the place invites reflection, to question oneself, to let oneself be disturbed, to shake up one's convictions, whether in a playful way or in a more profound way around the proposed scenographies.
An auditorium, an extensive library and a perfectly arranged bookshop complete the place. For a relaxing break, you can go to the Art Café, which offers a breathtaking view of Strasbourg, for a drink or a lunch. This last space sometimes proposes show-cases of recognized artists.
