PERTALÈS PARK
Park located on the edge of a residential area in Strasbourg, ideal place for a very pleasant walk or bike ride.
Situated on the edge of the very residential district of La Robertsau, the Pourtalès park is the setting for the 18th century castle, residence of Countess Mélanie de Pourtalès who received the crowned heads of Europe and illustrious personalities of the end of the 19th century. Today, the 24 hectares of landscaped grounds are a very pleasant place to walk or cycle. You can even have a picnic, meet up on the (free) tennis court or simply play a game of ball without disturbing anyone: there's plenty of space! Art lovers will recognize the works of contemporary artists such as Ernest, Flanagan, Krouth... Claudio Parmiggiani, the author of Il bosco guarda e ascolta ("the forest looks and listens") has created an installation combining plant elements (eyes formed on the trunks by cutting branches) and bronze (large ears placed at the foot of the trees). All the sculptures have been installed there since 1988 by the Centre européen d'actions artistiques contemporaines: it's up to you to find the connections between art and nature! This wood, which hides many remarkable trees, has been maintained in an ecological way for some years now by cows of the very elegant Highland Cattle breed, which gives it a wild and natural aspect that is very much appreciated.
