The most picturesque part of the old town, a condensed version of Alsace, with half-timbered houses dating from the and centuries

Petite France is a picturesque part of Alsace, with half-timbered buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries, canals and narrow streets. Fishermen, millers and tanners once worked here. The houses have preserved the stair-sloped roofs that housed the attics where hides were dried. Take a look at the beautiful Maison des Tanneurs, built in 1572. Petite France owes its name to the "French disease", or smallpox, which François I 's soldiers used to treat in the local hospital in the 16th century.

A parcourir absolument!
