Founded in the 1930's, made up of books brought by courageous "happiness seekers", Jewish settlers from Moscow, Kiev, Minsk... In 1941, it received the name of the Jewish writer Shalom Aleikhem. Today, 250,000 books and documents, magazines, photos, records, etc. are consulted there, including the very rare Encyclopaedic Dictionary by Brokgaouse and Efron (1939), the History of the Jews from ancient times to the end of the 19th century or the Vavilon Talmud (1896).
