REGIONAL MUSEUM
Go there and contact
This museum, located in a private mansion, gives a glimpse of the region's past and informs about its economy and its human and natural resources. You will see stuffed tigers and bears, ginseng roots with their well-known energetic virtues, and other plants typical of the local flora. The subsoil of the region abounds in minerals, most of which are exploited, and the museum shows us some samples: lead, iron, marble, bric-a-brac, coal... One of the rooms of the museum is dedicated to the history of the settlement of the region, the migration of the Jews towards the east and the creation of the autonomous region, with photos, rare documents and relics of the Jewish people. Many of these pieces come from Belarus, Ukraine and other parts of the western part of the country, and were thus saved from probable disappearance during the Second World War.
Another room deals exclusively with the history of Stalinist repression - which did not spare the region. It contains documents and photos of known Jews who disappeared in the concentration camps at that time. Other documents testify to the important role played by the Jews in the development of the region, not only Soviet Jews but also foreigners from Argentina, the United States, Poland, Palestine, etc. For example, more than 200 of them came to Los Angeles at the time and their descendants still live in the country.
