The museum is housed in the building constructed in 1894. The museum holds approximately 400,000 artifacts. The museum's permanent exhibits are devoted to paleontology, geology, flora and fauna of the region, the culture of indigenous peoples and Russian migrants, the history of the conquest and development of the Russian Far East, and the events of the 1917-1922 revolution and civil war. Temporary exhibitions are also available.
