This imposing cathedral, built on the site of an Armenian cemetery, is the largest in Georgia.
It's all you can see, or almost all you can see, especially at night, when it's superbly lit. That's the point: the cathedral is imposing. Consecrated in 2004 by the Catholicos Elias II, it is the stuff of superlatives. It is the largest cathedral in Georgia and the South Caucasus, and one of the largest Orthodox buildings in the world. Built in the traditional architectural style, it symbolizes spiritual renewal in Georgia. It is the seat of the Georgian episcopate.
