Imposing Armenian church with a valuable interior featuring khatchkars and paintings.
Next to the synagogue, the imposing Armenian church Norachen was originally erected in 1507 by an Armenian nobleman in memory of his grandfather. But the present structure dates from 1790. It is closed and is one of the churches that the Armenian community is claiming from the Georgian government. Its interior is of great value but it could deteriorate: it has khatchkars (Armenian crosses) and paintings by the 19th century artist Mkrtoum Hovnatanian.
