ANTCHISKHATI BASILICA
Ancient church in the city of Tbilisi, with some of the frescoes uncovered and a male polyphonic choir from Antchiskhati.
It's one of the jewels of Tbilisi. Dating from the 6th century, the church of Antchiskhati is the oldest in the city. According to the chronicles, it was built at the instigation of King Datchi of Iberia (522-534). Dedicated to the Virgin, renovated in the 17th century, its upper part is the oldest. Its name comes from the icon of the cathedral of Antchi in Klardjétie, in the 17th century, then preserved in the Museum of Art. Inside, some 17th century frescoes have been unearthed. The male polyphonic choir of Antchiskhati is the most famous in Georgia.
