ATESHGAH
Remains of a temple in the form of a strange cubic structure covered by a glass roof, used for Zoroastrian worship.
The old town still preserves the remains of a temple dedicated to Zoroastrian worship, practiced before the arrival of Christianity in Georgia in the 4th century. The temple is best viewed from rue Gomi, accessed via a garden that is now private. It was frequented by the faithful until the beginning of the last century. The present brick structure was erected in the 17th century around the fire temple, and renovation work took place from 2007 to 2009. For a time, the temple was converted into a mosque during the 17th century.
