RUE EREKLE II
This Erekle II street is the former royal square with the last vestiges of the royal palace destroyed during the Persian sacking of 1795.
If you come from Liberty Square down Khote Abkhazi Street or Leselidze Street, on the left, Erekle II Street is lined with touristy restaurants; some carpet stores mark the beginning. It leads to Erekle II Square (Erekle II Moédani). This is the former royal square. A large building, the Mint and the "Baths of King Rostom" are the last vestiges of the royal palace destroyed by the Persian sack in 1795. The huge palace of the Patriarch of the Orthodox Church has housed the Patriarchate since 1990.
