ILIA CHAVCHAVADZE HOUSE-MUSEUM
Museum displaying manuscripts by a great Georgian writer, archives and photographs, as well as interesting furniture.
Poet and public figure, he was the greatest Georgian writer of the 19th century (1837-1907). His birthplace, now a museum, is remarkable for its fortifications. King Irakli II had ramparts built around the entire town to protect it from raids from neighboring Dagestan. Inside, his manuscripts, archives and photographs are on display, along with some interesting furniture. The house also boasts an impressive marani (wine cellar).
