This former Catholic church on the banks of the Rioni is the largest religious building in the town of Koutaïssi.
From David Aghmachénébéli Square, continuing along Varlamichvili Street, which runs below the theatre, you will reach the former Catholic church on the banks of the Rioni River at the very end. It is the largest religious building in the city - apart from the ruins of Bagrati. It bears witness to the importance and richness of the Catholic community of Kutaisi in the past. The great Georgian composer Zakaria Paliachvili was himself from a Catholic family in Kutaisi. He began his musical career as a choir singer and then as an organist in St. Mary's Church.
