SAINT-NICOLAS GREEK CHURCH
Pretty Russian church of St. Nicholas, with beautiful icons and frescoes inside, enhanced by the blue light of the stained glass windows.
With its blue stained glass windows and red-orange-yellow facades, the Greek church of Saint-Nicolas is very pretty. It can be seen from the Piazza. Built between 1865 and 1871, it is a prime example of the Ottoman architecture that shaped the Batumi of today. During the Soviet period, when Georgia was part of the USSR, the church ceased to function until 1998. Inside, beautiful icons and frescoes are enhanced by the blue light of the stained glass windows.
