A visit to this fortress is particularly worthwhile for the superb panoramic views it offers of the sea and surrounding towns. The site's historical interest is also undeniable. The fortifications date back to the 6th century, and traces of the church and baths have been found. The Ottomans later used the fortress for defensive purposes, notably during the Crimean War. To get there by marshrutkas: either from Kobouleti or from Batumi (in front of the modern Catholic church overlooking the port).
