FEHRAD-BEY MOSQUE
Ottoman mosque featuring an almost cubic prayer hall with a dome, a three-domed porch and a 38 m-high minaret.
This Ottoman mosque (Ferhadija Džamija) offers a restful setting with its trees and old cemetery. Built around 1561 by Governor Ferhad Bey Vuković (a descendant of the great Bosnian nobility), it gives its name to the neighborhood of Fehradija and the main pedestrian street of Sarajevo. It also marks the boundary between Baščaršija and Fehradija. The building corresponds to the typical plan of the middle mosques of the classical Ottoman era: an almost cubic prayer hall with a dome, a porch with three domes and a minaret (here 38 m high).
