VRACA MEMORIAL PARK
Austere memorial space in a former Austro-Hungarian fortress paying tribute to the inhabitants who died in the war.
Located in a former Austro-Hungarian fortress on the border between the city and the mountains, this austere 6-hectare memorial space (Spuomen-Park Vraca) pays tribute to the 12,000 inhabitants of Sarajevo who died during the Second World War, some of whom were executed here by German and Croatian occupiers or at the camps of Auschwitz (Poland) and Jasenovac-Donja Gradina (north of Banja Luka). Inaugurated in 1981, it was ransacked by Bosnian-Serb forces in 1996 and renovated in 2019.
