CARAVANSERAI MORIĆA
The best-preserved caravanserai in the country, home to religious associations, a restaurant, a carpet seller and a Divan café.
This caravanserai (Morića Han) is the best preserved in the country. It was built in 1551 to house merchant caravans (upstairs) and store their goods (downstairs). Rebuilt after the sacking of the city by Eugene of Savoy in 1697, it could accommodate 300 travelers and 70 horses. Attached to the Gazi Hüsrev-Bey mosque foundation, it now houses religious associations (upstairs), a restaurant, a carpet seller as well as the pleasant Divan café (to the left of the entrance), which is considered the oldest café in Sarajevo.
