BRUSA BEZISTAN
Large building housing a rich little annex of the Sarajevo Museum devoted to the history of the city and Butmir culture.
This large building covered with six domes and surrounded by stalls (Brusa Bezistan) was built in 1551 for merchants from Bursa (150 km south of Istanbul) who came here to sell silk from China. Damaged during the last war, since its restoration in 2008 it has housed a rich little annex of the Sarajevo museum devoted to the history of the city, from the Butmir culture (Neolithic) to the Austro-Hungarian period. Among the exhibits are Celtic objects from the Bronze Age and the first representation of the Bosnian lily as a heraldic symbol.
