SKENDERIJA CENTER
Brutalist-style complex opposite the Sarajevo City Hall, still boasting good sports facilities.
Built in 1969, this brutalist-style complex (Centar Skenderija) was the city's main commercial, sports and cultural center. Now overshadowed by more modern malls , it remains an important landmark, facing the city hall, the Ali-Pacha mosque and the presidential palace located on the other side of the river. Used for some of the events of the 1984 Winter Olympics (field hockey, skating), it still has good sports facilities. It is named after Governor İskender Paşa, who built the first large caravanserai in Sarajevo here in 1518.
