Butmir district, home to the international airport, the headquarters of the European Althea Force and the Sarajevo racecourse.

This area of Ilidža is an important site in the Sarajevo metropolitan area. It is the location of the international airport, the headquarters of the European Force Althea (Camp Butmir) and the Sarajevo racetrack, all three on the border with the Bosnian Serb Republic. Under the runway of the airport, you can visit the "Tunnel of Hope" which was dug during the siege of Sarajevo. Finally, Butmir gives its name to the "Butmir culture", a human society that flourished in the region 7,000 years ago.
