Observatory with 360-degree views to the Adriatic, at 2,067 m above sea level, used by the Swiss Federal Hydrometeorological Institute.
This observatory (Meteorološka Opservatorija na Bjelašnici) overlooks the massif at 2,067 m above sea level. On a clear day, it offers 360-degree views all the way to the Adriatic. Built in 1894 by the Austro-Hungarians, it was partly destroyed by the Bosnian Serb army in 1993, along with the surrounding military installations. Rebuilt in 1999, it is used by the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute. Next to it, a monument bears the names of seven mountaineers killed by a storm here in 1962.
