VIEUX-PONT DE KONJIC
Beautiful Ottoman bridge spanning the Neretva, with a 102 m-long deck supported by five piers and six arches.
This beautiful Ottoman bridge (Stara Ćuprija or Stari Most) spans the Neretva River with a 102 m long deck supported by five piers and six arches. It was built in 1683 with a donation from Ali-Ağa Hasečić, a Bosnian notable from Constantinople. But the structure was dynamited by the Germans during their retreat in 1945. The preserved piers were fitted out with several "temporary" structures, before a complete restoration in 2003-2009. On this occasion, the banks and the old charchia were redeveloped, giving a certain cachet to the area.
