LAC DE JABLANICA
Artificial lake housing fisheries and fish farms where carp and three endemic species of Neretva trout are raised.
This artificial lake of about 24 km2 (Jablaničko Jezero) is located between Jablanica and Konjic. It was created in 1953-1954 with the construction of four hydroelectric power plants on the Neretva and three others on the Trebišnjica and Rama rivers from the north. It is 22 km long from east to west (30 km when full) with an average depth of 70 m. Its southern part is the most developed: this is where the national road M17 between Sarajevo and Mostar passes. This is especially true for the village of Ostrožac (about 700 inhabitants, 7 km northeast of Jablanica), which has several swimming spots, a boat rental company, restaurants, hotels, a campsite and an elegant 200 m long suspension bridge that leads to the hamlet of Głodnica, the most touristy place on the northern shore of the lake with guesthouses, a campsite and a boat rental company. Further east, in the direction of Konjic, the village of Čelebići (about 1,000 inhabitants) is also connected to the northern shore by a bridge that provides access to the hamlets of Zavratnice (to the right of the bridge) and Lisičići (a little further on, to the left of the bridge). The lake also has several fisheries and fish farms. Carp and three endemic species of Neretva trout are fished and raised here: the Neretva soft-lipped trout(Salmo obtusirostris oxyrhynchus), the toothed trout(Salmo dentex) and the marbled trout(Salmo marmoratus). These are threatened by the introduction of endogenous species, especially pikeperch.
