VUČJAKOVIĆ MOSQUE
A domed mosque in Mostar with a makeshift cemetery, used for Friday prayers and Eid celebrations.
This domed mosque (Vučjakovića Džamija), also known as the "mosque under the lime tree" (Džamija Pod Lipom), was erected around 1558-1564 in a style heavily influenced by Dubrovnik architecture. It was damaged in 1993 and its 25 m high minaret was rebuilt six years later. It also preserves an improvised cemetery during the siege of the city. Today, it is only used for the big Friday prayer and for the Eid festival. A little further up Bajatova Street are the Herzegovina Museum and the Clock Tower.
