HADŽI KURT MOSQUE
Small mosque flanked by a 26.5 m-high minaret used exclusively by Mostar's tanners.
Flanked by a 26.5 m high minaret, this small mosque (Hadži-Kurtova Džamija) was built in the early 17th century thanks to a donation from Alija Kurt, a member of an influential Turkish family in Mostar. Also known as the Tabačica ("tanners'") mosque, it was indeed used only by the tanners of Mostar, whose smell bothered the other Muslims of the city. The tanners thus had here their district (Tabhana), their mosque and their watercourse to work the skins, an arm of the Radobolja, which fed upstream the nearby hammam.
