PONT KARAĐOZ-BEY
A stone bridge with two distinctive features: a 33.40 m-long deck and five arches barely above the water.
This stone bridge (Karađoz-Begov Most) was built in the mid-16th century to connect Mostar with the town of Stolac (30 km south of Blagaj). It has two special features. Its 33.40 m long deck is slightly inclined. It is also very low, with its five arches barely protruding from the water when the Buna is flowing at full flow. It was financed by Mehmed-Bey Karađoz, a Bosnian nobleman to whom we owe, among other things, the largest mosque in Mostar and also to have supervised the beginning of the work on the Old Bridge, also in Mostar.
