ÉGLISE SAINT-ÉLIE
Catholic church flanked by a red-roofed bell tower, the main place of worship for Stolac's Bosnian-Croat community.
Flanked by a red-roofed bell tower, this Catholic church (Crkva Svetog Ilije Proroka) dates from 1902. It is the main place of worship for the Bosnian-Croat community of Stolac. On the square, a large pedestal has housed a 3.5-meter-high statue, a very contemporary bronze of the prophet Elijah by Croatian sculptor Kuzma Kovačić (b. 1952), since 2012. The site is the center of three days of celebrations for the Catholic feast of St. Elijah on July 20, with masses, a procession to the diocesan center, singing, dancing, etc.
