VILLAS BEGOVINA
An imposing residential complex with a five-arch bridge linking four villas, undergoing slow restoration.
This imposing residential complex with slate roofs stretches across the Bregava River with a five-arched bridge connecting four villas. It was built between 1835 and 1857 for the four Rizvanbegović brothers, including Ali-Pasha Rizvanbegović (1783-1851), administrator of Stolac and later vizier of the semi-independent state of Herzegovina (1833-1851). Damaged in 1993, the complex is undergoing a slow restoration. It is sometimes open for tours when the owner is there, a descendant of the vizier, Fahrudin Rizvanbegović, a former Bosnian minister.
