MILLS OF BREGAVA
Discover a dozen reconstructed old mills from the Ottoman period as you travel up the Bregava River from the Inat Bridge.
Going up the Bregava river from the Inat bridge, we discover about ten old mills from the Ottoman period that were active until the 20th century. All of them were destroyed or damaged in 1993 and rebuilt in 2010-2014 with the help of the EU. These stone buildings covered with slates, are from 5 to 22 m long. Each arch generally corresponds to the location of a water wheel and a brocade or fulling system. Just beyond the Inat bridge, the Mehmedbašić mill (Mehmedbašića Mlinica) has ten arches on which rested nine water wheels and the miller's chamber. About 70 m to the northeast, next to the Nakšibendi tekké, the Elezović mill (Elezovića Mlinica) is installed on an arm of the Bregava River and has eight arches. About fifty meters upstream, on the same arm, the Turković-Leto complex (Kompleks Mlinica Turković i Leto) consists of two mills with five arches that were operated by two families. Opposite, on the left bank, you can swim on the "Kreševac beach", under a small waterfall. Further up, under the beautiful Provalije Falls, the Buzaljko complex (Kompleks Mlinica Buzaljko) consists of four mills, the largest of which has seven arches and houses the Ljetna Bašta Old Mill restaurant. Then you have to go up the river for 500 m to discover the four arches of the Rizvanbegović mill (Mlinica Rizvanbegovića), which was part of the Begovina villa complex. Finally, at the very top, the Poplašić mill (Mlinica Poplašića) has three arches.
