Neighborhood overlooking the city center, home to the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God, with its bulbous bell tower.
Overlooking the city center, this neighborhood (Бикавац) is marked by the bulbous bell tower of the Serbian Orthodox Church of the Nativity of the Mother of God (1884). Inhabited since the Middle Ages, it is to him that the city owes its name: in Old Slavic, višegrad means a "high city". The streets are haunted by the memory of the massacre of June 27, 1992, during which 70 civilians died in a house burned by Bosnian-Serbs. Since 2017, the nearby hill has been adorned with a 5.5-meter-high cross in honor of the pro-Serb Russian militiamen of the last war.
