PALACE OF THE REPUBLIC
Official residence of the President of the Bosnian Serb Republic, housing a branch of the Serbian bank Hipotekarna.
Massive and semicircular, this building (Palata Republike/Палата Републике) has been the official residence of the President of the Bosnian Serb Republic since 2008. Mixing Bauhaus and neoclassical styles, it was built in 1936 to house a branch of the Serbian bank Hipotekarna. The entrance is guarded - besides by policemen - by two powerful statues of peasants from the Bosnian Krajina by the Ukrainian sculptor Zagorodnjuk Pavlovich (1889-1976). Trained in Paris, he was responsible for works in Belgrade, Sarajevo and Sydney, his adopted city from 1949.
