PORTE DE TRAVNIK
A powerful yet elegant gateway redesigned by the Ottomans, featuring an arched passageway, a tower, a small bastion and a fountain.
This powerful but elegant gate (Travnička Kapija) guards the southern entrance to the walled city. Created at the same time as the city walls at the end of the 14th century, it was originally used to protect the main bridge over the Pliva River, which has now disappeared. It was remodeled by the Ottomans from the 17th to the 19th century with walls 1.20 to 3.30 m thick, an arched passageway, a tower, a small bastion, a fountain (Hafizadića Česma) and the guards' dwelling, known as the Omer-bey house (Omerbegova Kuća). The latter houses the Kod Asima restaurant.
