Elegant house with neoclassical façade housing the Café Consul, the town's first Western-style dwelling.
This elegant 19th-century house (Hafizadića Kuća) can be spotted thanks to its neoclassical facade and ivy-covered gable. Housing the Consul Café, it is the first Western-style house in the city. It was built by Gábor Galantay, a Hungarian doctor who fled Austria in 1848. Completed in 1858, it has a café where the consuls posted in Travnik, then the seat of the Ottoman province of Bosnia, mingle. In 1875, the house was sold to the influential Bosnian family of Hafizadić, who kept it until 1941.
