SYNAGOGUE DE ZENICA
Neo-Moorish building in the "Jewish" street, now used as an exhibition hall and venue for secular festivities.
This yellow-and-orange neo-Moorish building (Sinagoga u Zenici) is located on the "Jewish" street (Jevrejska). It was erected in 1907 to serve the needs of the city's Jewish community, which numbered around 300 at the time. Used as a stable by the Germans during the Second World War, the synagogue housed the Municipal Museum (1967-2007) and today serves as an exhibition hall. It also hosts secular celebrations for the fifteen members of the present-day Jewish community, who, for want of a rabbi, no longer hold religious ceremonies here.
