FORTRESS OF VRANDUK
A fortress with an unobstructed view of the surrounding area, on a beautiful meander of the Bosna river, featuring a main tower with a small museum.
Set on a beautiful meander of the Bosna River, this fortress (Tvrđava Vranduk) overlooks the village of Vranduk, which has about 400 inhabitants. Erected by the Bosnian kings in the late 14th century, it was briefly the seat of the kingdom. Captured by the Ottomans in 1463, it was used as a prison in the 18th and 19th centuries. From 1878 to 1890, the Austro-Hungarians re-established a garrison there, but the building was then abandoned. Today, the fortress has been well restored and offers a clear view of the surrounding area. A small museum is located in the main tower.
