CATHEDRAL OF THE DORMITION OF THE MOTHER OF GOD
A small Orthodox cathedral with a 34.5 m high bell tower in neoclassical style and a richly decorated interior.
Dominated by a 34.5-meter-high bell tower, this small Serbian Orthodox cathedral (Hram Uspenja Presvete Bogorodice/Саборни Храм Успења Пресвете Богородице) dates from 1882. Neoclassical in style, it survived the wars, but a restoration stripped it of its charm in 2009. The interior is richly decorated and the carved wooden iconostasis (1910) houses 20 icons. The cathedral is the seat of the eparchy of Zvornik-Tuzla. However, since 1992, the metropolitan lives in Bijeljina.
