MOSQUÉE TURALI-BEY
Partially rebuilt mosque with a strange conical roof, the oldest Islamic building in Tuzla.
This mosque (Turalibegova Džamija) is the oldest Islamic building in Tuzla. Also known as the Poljska ("plain") mosque, it was built between 1548 and 1572 on the initiative of the founder of the present city, Gazi Turali bey, an Ottoman governor who probably came from the region. Due to its subsidence caused by an underground salt mine, it had to be partially rebuilt in 2007 with a strange conical roof. The mosque is located along the korzo, the Turalibegova promenade, which connects Stari Grad (the old town) to the modern city to the east.
