MONASTÈRE D'OZREN
Serbian Orthodox monastery at the foot of Mount Ozren, with a beautiful frescoed church featuring several interesting icons.
Founded during the second half of the 16th century, this Serbian Orthodox monastery (Manastir Ozren/Манастир Озрен) is located at the foot of Mount Ozren, which reaches 918 m above sea level. It preserves a beautiful church decorated with frescoes from the 17th century. This houses several interesting icons, including one of the Mother of God Glykophilousa (of "sweetness") executed by Emmanuel Lambardos (1567-1631), a great Greek master of the Cretan school, and another, on canvas, of the Ascension of Christ, by the Serbian painter from Romania Sava Petrović (1794-1857).
