PARC DU 9-JANVIER
A small park on the edge of the Bosnian-Serb district of Srpska Varoš along the Sava, home to the Monument to the Serbian Defenders of Brčko.
This small park (Park Devetog Januara) stirs up tensions between the communities of Brčko. Located on the edge of the Bosnian-Serb neighborhood of Srpska Varoš, along the Sava River, it is named in honor of the day of the creation of the Bosnian Serb Republic, January 9, 1992, a prelude to the war in Bosnia-Herzegovina. However, the celebration of this date is declared illegal by the country's justice. The park is home to the Monument of the Serbian Defenders of Brčko (1997), which also offends the memory of the city, ravaged by these same "Serbian defenders" during the last war.
