MUR DE LA LIBÉRATION DU PEUPLE
Bronze bas-relief created by Bosnian-Croatian sculptor Vladimir Herljević to celebrate seven hundred years of Bihać.
This bronze bas-relief (Narodnooslobodilačkoj Borbi) was created in 1960 for the seven hundredth anniversary of Bihać by the Bosnian-Croatian sculptor Vladimir Herljević (born 1930). The dates 1260 and 1960 frame two panels. The one on the left depicts King Béla IV of Hungary who, driven out by the Tatars, took refuge here in 1260 and granted Bihać the status of a free city in 1262. The one on the right depicts Tito at the liberation of the city by a brigade of Slovenian partisans on April 26, 1945.
