PRIMARY FOREST OF PLJEŠIVICA
Forest under the Lička Plješivica massif, with beech and white fir trees and twelve species of endemic flowers.
This 39 ha forest (Prašuma Plješivica) is located under the Lička Plješivica massif (1,646 m above sea level) where the Croatian border passes. It is called "primary" because it has not undergone any visible transformation by man. Made up of beech and white fir trees, it is said to be 3,500 years old. There are twelve species of endemic flowers such as the Dalmatian bellflower and a pink carnation, Dianthus monanthos. The Plješivica lodge is a good place to start.
