Built by the famous Prince Dika Akwa Nya Bonambella, this architectural masterpiece ushered in a new era in Douala: that of opulent castles. The palace is a homogeneous synthesis of Cameroonian diversity: the western door is decorated with a Bamiléké hut and the two-headed snake, the "arms" of the Bamoun; the northern door represents a boukarou, the southern a Béti hut, and the eastern a maka hut. The Dika Akwa palace is a major venue for the annual Ngondo celebration, among other traditional ceremonies.
